The
Ultimate Tennis Showdown (UTS) event will be organised in
New York later this year. The development was confirmed by the tournament’s
official website.
The competition will be held on Thursday and Friday, August
22 and 23 this year at the legendary Forest Hills Stadium. The venue has
been hosting the US Open for more than 60 years as well.
This competition will have a number of top players performing
including the likes of Australia’s
Nick Kyrgios, Russia’s
Andrey Rublev, Norway’s
Casper Ruud, Australia’s Alex de Minaur and France’s Gael Monfils. All players
will be fighting for the prize money worth $1 million.
Out of all the players, Kyrgios’ name has been the most surprising
one considering that the former world number 10 has been out of action for more
than 15 months because of a knee injury. It was because of this that he ended
up missing all four Grand Slams in 2023 and also did not take part in the
Australian Open in 2024 as well.
Other than him, Rublev will be the centre of attention as he
won the UTS Oslo event held back in February earlier this year where in the
final, he defeated Australia’s De Minaur with a score of 3-1.
