Former world number one
John McEnroe has been joined by
five-time Grand Slam winner Russia’s
Maria Sharapova in the latest episode of a
series for ESPN+.
Both legendary tennis players are now spending some time
doing other activities on and off the court.
While doing another such assignment, Sharapova posted a
video with McEnroe on her Instagram account as she joined him for a new episode
of the series.
The 36-year-old retired from tennis in 2020 after witnessing
a dip in form as well as fitness concerns.
She stayed world number one for 21 weeks in her career and
lifted five major titles as well. Her most successful competition was the
French Open where she ended up lifting the title twice — in 2012 and then later
in 2014.
She is one of the very few players in the circuit to win all
four Grand Slams in her career.
On the other hand, McEnroe also stayed at the top of the ladder
in the 1980s and won as many as seven Grand Slams in his career.
The 64-year-old’s most successful competition was the US
Open where he ended up lifting the title four times — 1979, 1980, 1981, 1984.
