World number one Novak Djokovic celebrated the turn of the
year with his Serbian team who are participating in the United Cup.
Serbia is placed in Group E alongside China and the Czech
Republic. They started brightly after getting the better of the Chinese team with
a score of 2-0.
In a video that appeared on social media platform X — previously
known as Twitter — Djokovic can be seen at the start of the new year with the team
in Perth, Australia.
Djokovic is often regarded as the greatest player in the
history of tennis in the men’s singles category in the Open era, having won as
many as 24 Grand Slam titles. He had a fabulous time on the court in 2023 where
he ended up winning three out of four Grand Slam titles.
His only defeat last season in a major tournament came in
the final at Wimbledon where he came second-best against Spain’s Carlos Alcaraz
in a five-set thriller with a score of 1–6, 7–6(8–6), 6–1, 3–6, 6–4.
The 36-year-old started the 2024 season brightly after
defeating Zhang Zhizhen in straight sets with a score of 6-3, 6-2. Later in the doubles category, he along with Olga
Danilovic defeated the pair of Zhang Zhizhen and Zheng Quinwen with a score of 6-4,
1-6, 10-6 to seal the tie.
