The All England Club will get a new massive show court as part of plans to extend the venue.
Expansion of
Wimbledon has been a topic for many years and additional courts would allow the qualies to be moved from Roehampton to Wimbledon which would be a plus. The expansion should cover the existing golf course which was bought back in 2018. The project should begin in 2022 and the expansion would cover about 67 acres.
The famous All England Lawn Tennis Club (AELTC) wants to expand into
the neighbouring Wimbledon Park Golf Club, where it wants to build 39
new grass courts. There are currently a total of 40 tennis courts on-site and the grand slam tournament held there each year attracts 500,000 visitors.
The planning application said: “The AELTC Wimbledon Park Project is a
once in a generation opportunity to maintain The Championships as the
premier tennis tournament in the world, and deliver a positive impact
for our communities, in particular our local community.”
