Several of the top stars on the WTA circuit will hope to start their 2023 season on the right foot, with the
Adelaide International iI tournament taking place immediately after Adelaide International I but before the
Australian Open.
A WTA 500 event, Adelaide 2 will run from January 9-14 2023 and features a 32-woman singles field. Defending champion Ashleigh Barty has since retired from the sport, leaving room for a new champion.
World No.1
Iga Swiatek, who experienced a career-best season in 2022, fell to Barty in last year's semifinal. The Polish star will be hoping to go one step further and claim the title, setting the framework for a repeat performance of her exceptional 2022 season.
Joining Swiatek in the hunt for their first title of the season will be Top 10 stars
Ons Jabeur, who reached two Grand Slam finals last year, and
Caroline Garcia, the resurgent Frenchwoman who fought her way into the Top 5 on the WTA rankings.
Americans
Jessica Pegula and Madison Keys are also expected to compete at the event, as are the Russian duo of Daria Kasatkina and Veronika Kudermetova. Spanish star
Paula Badosa will be present, alongside last year's runner-up Elena Rybakina.
