The
WTA will make a stop in Mexico for the
Guadalajara Open Akron tournament, which is scheduled to run from September 17-23, 2023.
A WTA 1000 event, the Guadalajara Open often features several of the most talented players on tour. However, some top players will be missing from this edition. Former World No.1 Iga Swiatek and defending champion Jessica Pegula have withdrawn from the event, citing exhaustion. Additionally, 2023 US Open runner-up Aryna Sabalenka will not be participating at this year's event.
Jabeur, Garcia to headline event
There will still be a number of top 10 talent competing for the title, as
Ons Jabeur, Caroline Garcia and Maria Sakkari are all scheduled to compete. Therefore, it comes as no surprise that a lucrative prize pool of $2,788,468 will be on offer. Furthermore, the winner will leave with a vital 900 ranking points, as the race for qualification at the year-ending WTA Finals heats up.
