The WTA will make a stop in Mexico for the Guadalajara Open Akron tournament, which is scheduled to run from September 9-15, 2024
A WTA 500 event, the Guadalajara Open often features several of the most talented players on tour. Albeit with the demotion it is now not mandatory and also suffers from being a week earlier and after the US Open.
Emma Navarro, Anna Kalinskaya and Paula Badosa have all decided against playing as a result with the former in particular having a run to the semi-finals. Maria Sakkari is also out injured.

Collins, Ostapenko, Azarenka and Garcia headline

As a result in the main it is still top names but perhaps a big opportunity now arises with the bigger names deciding against it. Danielle Collins, Caroline Garcia, Jelena Ostapenko and Victoria Azarenka lead the way. They are all in desperate need of form so will be hoping to strut their stuff in Mexico.
They will be battling though this year for a lions share of $922,573 which is a lot down on last year's total of $2,788,468 due to the demotion. The champion takes home $142,000 and 500 WTA ranking points. While the runner-up takes home 325 ranking points and $87,655.
Players that exit in the first round, receive $8,860. While those in the second round get $13,170. In the Quarter-Finals and Semi-Finals, it jumps to $24,200 and $51,205 respectively with 108 and 195 points.
