The Guadalajara Open which is due to take place between September 9-15, 2024 is not only a leading stop in the latter half of the season but is one that has been slightly blighted by the US Open with the
draw now confirmed.
Maria Sakkari albeit due to injury won't defend her title. Whilst Anna Kalinskaya for instance seemingly would rather stay and support boyfriend Jannik Sinner in New York as he aims for the title at Flushing Meadows.
But also it has suffered from the days of Sakkari and Pegula leading the tournament from a demotion down to WTA 500 and being a week earlier than previous years so many top names have decided against making the trip.
Fresh from winning the women's doubles though, Jelena Ostapenko will play. She could face Olympic standout Anna Karolina Schiemdlova in the second round. Danielle Collins could take on Sloane Stephens early. She is part of a cluster of top names who have decided to play after losing early in New York.
Victoria Azarenka, Caroline Garcia among others also lost early and will play over the next week in the tournament which last year revived the hopes of Maria Sakkari who went from crying in her press conference at the US Open to euphoria of breaking her title curse. Garcia was also one of those players who benefited from a depleted field to perform well last year.
