As the stars of the WTA transition from clay to grass, competitors will travel to Birmingham, United Kingdom for the
Birmingham Classic, a warm-up event before the
Wimbledon Championships.
A WTA 250 event, the Birmingham Open is scheduled to run from June 17-23, 2024. The tournament will feature 32 singles players competing for the title, with the local favorite
Katie Boulter listed as the only home player on the initial entry list.
Former Grand Slam champions to feature in Birmingham
2017 French Open
Jelena Ostapenko is scheduled to compete at the event, with the former World No.5 always considered a big threat regardless of surface. Barbora Krejcikova will also compete for the title, as the 2021 French Open champion slowly finding her form after dealing with injuries. Elise Mertens, Karolina Pliskova and Mirra Andreeva have also been announced for the tournament.
The Birmingham Open will offer a
prize money pool of $267,082 to all participants. The winner will walk away with an impressive $35,250, in addition to 250 WTA ranking points. The runner-up will take home $20,830 and receive 163 points ranking points. Below is the full breakdown.
