The 2024
Rouen Open will be played on indoor clay courts and will take place between
April 15 and April. This will be the third edition of the tournament, which
received an upgrade from WTA 125 to WTA 250 for this year, resulting in
increased prize money and points, attracting a competitive main draw.
Former Australian Open finalist Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova
(No. 22) is the top seed of the tournament, followed by local favorite Caroline
Garcia (No. 23), who seeks to become the first Frenchwoman to win the title.
Other local hopes include Diane Parry (No. 49), Clara Burel (No. 44), Varvara
Gracheva (No. 94), and Alize Cornet (No. 106).
Two Grand Slam champions will participate in the tournament,
with the stellar presence of former world No. 1 Naomi Osaka (No. 192), playing
her first clay court tournament since the 2022 French Open (where she lost in
the first round to Amanda Anisimova). Osaka recently commented that she hopes
to play "a full clay court season" and improve her results on the
surface that suits her least.
Former US Open champion Sloane Stephens will also be part of
the main draw and will face a tough opening match against her compatriot Peyton
Stearns (No. 79). Other notable players in the draw include former world No. 1
Karolina Pliskova (No. 47), who will face Polina Kudermetova (No. 178), and the
16-year-old young star Mirra Andreeva (No. 43), who will debut against Nadia
Podoroska (No. 65).
