Martina
Navratilova once again called for greater protection for women in a recent
social media discussion.
The 18-time
Grand Slam champion expressed her dissatisfaction with Daniel Radcliffe's
comments. Radcliffe, who played Harry Potter, criticized J.K. Rowling, the
author of the book, and stated that transgender women are women, in response to
Rowling's consistent transphobic statements.
“Just be
quiet”, Navratilova wrote
Two users
sparked a debate on the topic of valuing transgender women equally and delved
into subjects like sexual assaults. The former world No. 1 responded with her
opinion on the matter:
“Nobody hates all men. But we do hate the ones doing the assaulting and raping- 99% of all
sexual assaults are done by men. Being trans doesn't change that statistic.
Thank you for caring about women's safety so much!!!” she responded to
the comments,” Navratilova stated.
"Is
this a joke? The pathetic parody of women continues," she added later.
"Again-
if protecting women’s sex-based spaces makes a bigot, then I am a bigot. And
thank you for caring about women. Btw- I support trans men competing in men’s
sports or women’s sports if they don’t take any drugs. Trans women cannot
compete against women- its called biology."
Some users
responded to Navratilova and her controversial opinions in the ongoing debate
about transgender women, something the American often discusses on social
media, especially regarding their participation in women's sports, which the
tennis legend disagrees with. Here are some fan comments.
“Why be
quiet, Martina? I don't understand your stance. You've experienced
discrimination as a lesbian. Why don't you have more empathy for trans women?
If there are individuals attempting to take advantage of trans policies, let's
work to address that issue and hold those individuals accountable, but not
discriminate against trans women. "
"Why should he? I personally think that we should support all people in their choices about their bodies. We women know how hard it is to be women in this world why would we want to inflict that on anyone else? Trans people have a hard enough time without lies against them!"
