After Swiatek's loss in Warsaw, Serena Williams remains the last player to finish undefeated on clay

Iga Swiatek loves playing on clay and she's been undefeated on the surface until yesterday when Caroline Garcia ended that streak ensuring that Williams remains the last player to go undefeated on the surface.

Being undefeated on clay is extremely hard because so much tennis is being played on the surface each year. It's an integral part of the season which is why Nick Kyrgios wants to see it gone as it leaves him unemployed for a good amount of time in spring.

Swiatek played a couple of events on clay this year and she won all of them. Triumphs in Stuttgart, Rome and the French Open had the Polish player at an 18-0 record on the surface. That is now 18-1 after Caroline Garcia proved better in Warsaw 6-1 1-6 6-4.

Swiatek desperately wanted to win this triumph in her hometown in front of family and friends but it did not work out in the end. There was obvious rust in her game and ultimately a red-hot Garcia who is in stellar form proved too much to overcome.

The loss leaves Serena Williams as the last player to go undefeated on the surface. It happened in 2013 when she went 28-0 on the surface winning trophies in Charleston, Madrid, Rome, Roland Garros and Bastad.
