Alex Eala's breakthrough 2026 season is set to receive a spectacular homecoming in December, with the Filipina star preparing to headline an exhibition at the Philippine Arena alongside one of the country's greatest sporting icons, Manny Pacquiao. Eala will face Indonesia's Janice Tjen on December 8 in Alex Eala Live: Game. Set. Celebrate, with the matchup bringing together two of Southeast Asia's leading players. The 21-year-old will return home as the highest-ranked player in Southeast Asian tennis history, currently sitting at a career-high No. 18 after an extraordinary rise this season.
Pacquiao will headline a star-studded celebrity lineup that also includes actors Piolo Pascual and Anne Curtis, as well as Julia Barretto, Donny Pangilinan and Andrea Brillantes. Tatler, which is organizing the event, has not yet announced the individual celebrity matchups, but the scale of the occasion is already clear.
The exhibition comes after Eala enjoyed one of the biggest stretches of her young career, winning her maiden WTA title in Washington and reaching the fourth round at Wimbledon before making another significant breakthrough at the US Open. Her run in New York helped further establish her as one of the WTA's most exciting emerging stars.
Eala's US Open run adds to remarkable 2026
Eala arrived in New York as the No. 17 seed and produced her best US Open singles campaign to date. She opened with a dominant victory over American qualifier Mary Stoiana before overcoming Oleksandra Oliynykova, avenging an earlier defeat in Strasbourg to reach the third round at the tournament for the first time.

Her third-round defeat was a particularly dramatic encounter against American teenager Iva Jovic, with the 14th seed eventually prevailing 7-5, 3-6, 7-5 after three hours and three minutes. Jovic and Eala are close friends, making the result even more emotional as the American celebrated reaching the fourth round for the first time.
The result nevertheless represented another step forward for Eala at a Grand Slam. After reaching the second round on her US Open debut in 2025, she went one stage further this year and continued a run of strong major performances that began with her fourth-round appearance at Wimbledon.

- Sabalenka began showing signs of her game gradually 'changing' since last season. I predicted her fascination with posting endless Selfies, participating in commercial media distractions and constant Social Media nonsense could impact her in a negative way. Her off-court Life was sure to interfere with her performace level. Visions of Raducanu, Giorgi, Bouchard come to mind. The Final yesterday was a weird case of polar-opposites. Sabalenka and Rybakina could not be any more different in personalities! Saba often portrays a somewhat fake persona, including her Phony Screaming. Her usual habit of acting like the nice girl with a sense of humor is a misconception. People take her lack of intellect as "cute" and "funny". So anyway... yesterday viewers witnessed that Fake Scream be reduced to a whimper and sometimes no vocal gymnastics at all once she knew the jig was up. We all saw her look into the camera post-match and say "F... You". Also, pretty hard to not see Saba making untoward facial expressions, rolling her eyes, etc., behind Rybakina while on the podium. Elena Rybakina, on the other hand, was her usual 'in-control' self as she spoke clearly and calmly, without making faces nor any ill-will toward anyone = 100% Class Act. Lena appeared more than aware of Saba's sour attitude and made a point of not looking in her direction most of the time. FWIW: I have never -- not ever -- heard Sabalenka make any sounds on practice courts. So it is indeed a nonsensical ruse as she thinks (incorrectly) it affects opponents. It does not. In fact, as was the case yesterday, I saw Lena occasionally take a side-eye glance at Saba on her way to the bench... as if to calculate her emotions.
