Alexandra Eala v Iva Jovic third round a must for the US Open: "Showcase for not just the future, but I think just the young present"

Alexandra Eala resumes her campaign at the US Open shortly when she faces off against Oleksandra Oliynykova, the impressive Ukrainian who no doubt will want to upset the apple cart.

This due to what Jim Courier described as a tie that the USTA will certainly want to happen between Iva Jovic and Eala that could be made later tonight. Jovic faces Francesca Jones also later this evening and they could meet once again.;

It has become likely a bit of irritating joke for the leading duo that they keep facing each other. Both are very good friends off the court, some would say best friends on tour in a group of rising young female talents including Zeynep Sonmez, Eva Lys as well as Coco Gauff, Victoria Mboko among others. All are towards the higher echelons of the rankings, but all as young women making their way in the world they have each other which has produced a bit of a heartwarming narrative.

They played at the Stars of the Open and keep meeting on tour albeit Jovic will want the meeting more given she can't stop winning against Eala. But Jim Courier spoke prior to Eala's latest tie admitting that the USTA are likely rubbing their hands with glee at the thought of it.

Especially given Jovic is a player who at 18 continues to bring eyes to American tennis and is well spoken and a good ambassador for the sport as well as Eala who sells tickets in abundance due to her Filipino fanbase and also them being close friends creates a brilliant dynamic.

“It’s incredible. When your life changes like this, and granted, she hasn’t won a big title yet, it will get even more exponentially, from a popularity standpoint, bigger for her should she do that, and she might someday, but even without that, she is transforming the culture of tennis, certainly, in her country, and bringing more fans under the tent,” said Courier.

Courier described it certainly as tennis present and future but a younger version of tennis present. Quite apt as both aim to make that a possibility later tonight.

“And I’ve got to tell you, if I’m the USTA, I would be so pumped if Eala makes the third round to play Iva Jovic, the young American who is equally impressive when you hear her speak. That would be a real showcase for not just the future of women’s tennis, but I think just the young present.”
