Fans lauded the congratulatory message from the current world number one Iga Swiatek to Belarus’ tennis star and the current world number two Aryna Sabalenka for winning the Australian Open 2024.
The first Grand Slam of the year finally came to an end on Sunday after a memorable final in the men’s singles category where Italy’s young tennis star Jannik Sinner lifted the title — which was his first major title — after beating the current world number three Russia’s Daniil Medvedev in a five-set thriller with a score of 3-6, 3-6, 6-4, 6-4, 6-3.
A day earlier on Saturday, Sabalenka, for the second year running, lifted the Australian Open after beating China’s Qinwen Zheng in the final in straight sets with a score of 6-3, 6-2 on Saturday.
Swiatek, who is in constant battle with Sabalenka for the top spot in the WTA ranking, congratulated her opponent in a post on social media platform X — previously known as Twitter. “Congrats @SabalenkaA on 2nd title in Australia, impressive!” she wrote.
