Amanda Anisimova played a fabulous match to down Coco Gauff in three sets and move on to the 4th round of Wimbledon 6-7(4) 6-2 6-1.
It was her first-ever time playing on the centre court and she did not disappoint. It was a slow start for her, nothing unusual for her as she plays quite aggressively and it takes time to find a good rhythm. Gauff jumped out to a 3-0 lead but then lost four games in a row to give Anisimova a 4-3 lead. A couple of bad misses made it 4-4 and in the tiebreak, it was Anisimova who took the early 4-1 lead.
She then lost six points in a row to lose the tiebreak 7-4 missing a couple of really easy shots. She finished the opening set with 26 unforced errors which was way too much but she still lost a fairly close set. That was trouble for Gauff especially if Anisimova found more control of her shots and she did.
She outplayed her opponent easily 6-2 in the 3rd set to force a decider and in the decider, she outplayed Gauff a bit more. Overall she committed only 15 more unforced errors in those two sets winning them 6-2 6-1. It was a fabulous performance from her and one where she proved she can go all the way if things fall into place. She celebrate the win notably showing just how much it meant to her.
