It was a pretty strong performance from
Simona Halep to down Magdalena Frech at
Wimbledon 6-4 6-1 to move on to the 2nd week.
Halep was utterly impressive in this one but similar to most matches she played this year it was not perfect. Quite far from it. She opened well hitting the ball very hard and attacking early on in rallies. It's a signature style that became even more aggressive once she started working with Mouratoglou. It worked for her as she jumped out to an early double break lead 4-0.
She was up 5-1 when Frech went on a bit of a run herself winning three games in a row. It was a result of Halep being too eager to get things done resulting in a couple of bad misses. When she stepped up to serve for the set again at 5-4 she closed it out without dropping a point.
The 2nd set opened with the players trading breaks. Actually, the first three games of the 2nd set featured the serving player losing that game. The result of it was a 2-1 lead for Halep that became a 4-1 lead and then a 6-1 victory. It was a match where Halep dominated from the baseline and when she was in a good rhythm there was nothing Frech could do. 23 winners in total for Halep.
