Former World No.4
Bianca Andreescu recently spoke about the horrific injury she suffered at the 2023
Miami Open, detailing her struggles and recovery process.
Andreescu hurt her ankle during her fourth round match against Ekaterina Alexandrova, and had to be carted off the court in a wheelchair. The Canadian later revealed she had torn two ligaments in her ankle, and added it was the worst pain she'd ever experienced in her life.
"Swollen but not bruised. I could barely move my foot," admitted the 22-year old on social media. "I did not sleep for the first three days because of the pain.”
Fortunately, she had her pet dog Coco, who she claimed helped her immensely through the recovery period.
“Coco, she literally saved me throughout the whole process," added Andreescu. "She is the cutest, and I love her so so much.”
Andreescu has had bad luck at the Miami Open, having been forced to retire through injury all three times she has competed in the WTA 1000 event. In 2019, she suffered a shoulder injury, and in 2021, an ankle sprain.
