Anett Kontaveit continued to play excellent tennis by smashing a very shaky Petra Kvitova 6-0 6-4 setting up the final against Maria Sakkari.
This week in Ostrava has been a spectacular one for Anett Kontaveit. The Estonian player played some of the best tennis she has played all year and that continued today against Kvitova. The first set was utter domination by Kontaveit but she was greatly helped by Kvitova who didn't do anything well. She made mistakes, she serve poorly and generally was simply outplayed by Kontaveit.
The set ended with a bagel 6-0 to Kontaveit and not much did change in the 2nd set. Kvitova played better in the 2nd set but it was far too little to challenge a red hot Kontaveit who had a lot of confidence in her game. She didn't drop a single point on serve in the first set and she continued to play dominant on her own serve.
Kvitova served better in the 2nd set but that didn't matter as Kontaivet had all the answers. She played very aggressively from the baseline and Kvitova could not match it. She either made a mistake or was too late to cover the court. She lost her serve rather midway through the set that proved too much to overcome. Kontaveit dominated on her serve and easily closed it out with 6-4.
A great match by Kontaveit who allowed only a single break point, dominating from start to finish and winning easily. She will play Maria Sakkari in the final tomorrow.
