Three hours and 20 minutes was the Strasbourg Open final that saw
Angelique Kerber battle past
Kaja Juvan in three close sets 7-6(5) 6-7(0) 7-6(5).
What a final it was in Strasbourg between two of the best players all week long in the French city. Both Angelique Kerber and Kaja Juvan played some superb tennis to reach the final in Strasbourg and the Slovenian player was especially impressive. Juvan has shown promise in the past but it seems like being best friends with Iga Swiatek rubbed off on her.
She played amazing tennis all week long and in the final as well but the lack of experience really hurt her in this affair. She jumped out to a 2-0 lead thanks to her attacking and brave play but gave her serve right back. She broke once again taking a 4-1 lead and it looked really good for a while. Juvan served for the set at 5-3 but lost her serve and again to give Kerber the 6-5 lead with the serve.
Juvan broke back once more but lost the tiebreak with 5-7. She was up 4-1 in the 2nd set with a double break but lost it again with Kerber holding 5-4 lead after that. Juvan was able to force a tiebreak where she proved better 7-0. The third set was a proper battle with both having chances but it could only end in a tiebreak. Kerber was head for the majority of it and she won it with an unbelievable winner true to her style.
