World number one
Aryna Sabalenka has
vastly improved her double faults statistics in 2023.
The 25-year-old has had a fabulous
year where she became the number one ranked player in the WTA rankings, largely
because of her consistent performances.
One of the areas where Sabalenka
has worked this year was on her serve where she considerably lowered her double
faults count.
This year, the Minsk-born
committed 256 double faults, sixth in the list of players who committed the most
double faults in the competition.
She is behind Russia’s Ekaterina
Alexandrova (357), America’s Alycia Parks (302), Belgium’s Elise Mertens (298),
Latvia’s Jelena Ostapenko (270) and Ukraine’s Marta Kostyuk (260).
Last year, Sabalenka ended up committing
428 double faults in 601 service games, something that cannot be described as
acceptable and she will be hoping to even improve that even further.
Sabalenka has had a fabulous year
at the highest level where she ended up playing in the semifinal or beyond in
all of the Grand Slams.
The highlight of the year for the current
top-ranked player came in the Australian Open where she defeated Elena Rybakina
with a score of 4–6, 6–3, 6–4.
Sabalenka also played in the final
of the US Open where she lost to America’s young sensation Coco Gauff with a
score of 3-6, 6-3, 6-2.
