Ashleigh Barty was able to overcome a 2nd set rally by Pliskova to win the 2021
Wimbledon 6-3 6-7(4) 6-3.
Barty justified the favourite mantle in the 2021 Wimbledon final to defeat
Karolina Pliskova 6-3 7-5. The Australian player came out furious against Pliskova who was a bit nervous to start. She could not get the ball in the court as cleanly as she liked and she struggled with Barty's slice. The Australian won the opening set with 6-3.
She continued playing well in the 2nd set taking an early 3-1 lead. However, things turned around after that as Pliskova started playing better. She was able to pull it back to 3-3. At 5-5, she lost her serve once more and it seemed Barty would close it out but the Australian played a poor game to send the match to the tiebreak.
In it, Pliskova was able to outplay Barty with some stellar shotmaking and with a bit of luck. The Czech player hit the top of the net twice and won both points. Barty started making a lot of mistakes late in the set and that continued in the tiebreak. She finished it with 14 unforced errors losing the tiebreak 4-7.
The 3rd set opened with Pliskova applying a lot of pressure on Barty with extra aggression. However, that resulted in a lot of unforced errors which allowed Barty to jump out to a 4-1 lead. Barty was able to hold the lead and closed it out with 6-3.
