Danielle Collins retired from her first-round Dubai Tennis Championships match after suffering an injury in the 2nd set.
Collins looked extremely sharp in her first match since the Australian Open where she lost in the final to Ashleigh Barty. The opponent was Marketa Vondrousova, a very tricky player who can defeat you on her day. The Czech player defeated Collins in Chicago last year and lead the matchup 1-0 before this match. None of that mattered early as Collins unleashed her full force on her opponent.
Stellar play and supreme confidence allowed COllins to take a double break lead after which he finished off the set with 6-2. The 2nd set did not go so well for Collins who suffered a hand injury but tried to play through. After getting down 0-3 she called a MTO and after a lengthy inspection, she retired from the match. It's unclear what type of injury she suffered but the abrupt retirement might not be very good news for Collins.
