After battling her way through the qualifying rounds to reach the 2025 Australian Open, Aussie player Destanee Aiava had to purchase a tennis outfit from Facebook ahead of her opening match at the first Grand Slam of the season.
The 24-year old fought through three rounds of qualifying to gain admittance to the main draw of the Happy Slam. Aiava defeated Ana Bogdan, Panna Udvardy and finally Eva Lys to reach the first round of her home Grand Slam for the fifth time in her career.
The Melbourne native wore replicas of vintage dresses made famous by Maria Sharapova and Ana Ivanovic during her qualifying matches, and later revealed she purchased them online.
When asked about her outfit for her showdown with first round opponent Greet Minnen, Aiava disclosed she had her eyes set on a particular outfit she had spotted on Facebook and stated her intentions to but the kit.
"I found one on Facebook yesterday before my match," said Aiava. "I might go pick that up. It's only $35, which is a steal.
"I am hoping to get a sponsor. I'll probably have to put up with wearing the same thing as other people. But for now I'm loving picking whatever I want to wear and buying whatever I want."
