Victoria Azarenka won her first match at the Libema Open but she lost the second one getting easily beaten by Ashlyn Krueger 6-3 6-2 in Den Bosch.
This was not a very good performance from Azarenka who generally can play well on grass. The Belarusian has struggled with her tennis early as her clay performances haven't been that good even though the year started on a very high note at the Australian Open. She won the opening round at the Libema Open looking very good but her next one against Krueger didn't go that well.
The American took an early lead in the first set 3-0 and then added another break to make it 5-0. Azarenka was all over the place struggling to do anything right and it never went away during this match. She served poorly in the opening set getting outplayed in rallies by her opponent consistently. She would find a better level as the set went on but not by match.
Despite pulling back a break the American still cruised to a 6-3 finish. There was a lot of playing on the serve of Krueger but Azarenka simply could never string together several great rallies. The second set was a bit better by Azarenka overall but Krueger also played better feeling confident after a very strong opening set.
The score was even more impressive this time around as it was 6-2 compared to 6-3 but the crucial rallies were still won by the American. There was just an easy in which Krueger was able to do things on the serve of Azarenka and the Belarusian never found a solution for that. It was odd to see but quite in line with how Azaernka has been playing for a while. Hopefully, things improve a bit for Wimbledon.
