Paula Badosa took down Viktorija Golubic in straight sets while Ajla Tomljanovic retired against Fiona Ferro at National Bank Open in Montreal.
The tennis event in Montreal formerly known as Rogers Cup got underway an hour ago the first returns are slowly coming in. Paula Badosa continued her stellar run of form with another impressive victory. The Spaniard took on Golubic who is having her best year ever in 2021 and there were no issues.
Badosa, who was on track for a Medal in Tokyo, retired from the Olympics after a heat stroke but she was superb today. After losing her serve in the first game of the match the Spaniard took control of the match and never looked back. Golubic was dominated from the baseline and the Spaniard moves on with 6-2 6-3.
Joining her in the next round will be Fiona Ferro who finally won a match after some fairly lacklustre results in the past month or so. Ferro known as a hard hitter struggled early in this match against Tomljanovic who was solid. The Aussie served well enough and controlled rallies to take the first set 6-2.
The 2nd set featured a complete opposite product as Ferro was the one who dominated rallies and controlled tempo. The Australian's play deteriorated as the match went on with Ferro winning the 2nd set with 6-2. After that Tomljanovic retired with an apparent injury. More to follow.
