World No.42
Paula Badosa may be hoping to climb back up the WTA rankings, but the Spanish star has set a personal milestone that previously took her a year to achieve.
The former World No.2 suffered a round of 16 loss to
Maria Sakkari at the 2023
Madrid Open, and by doing so recorded her fifth loss against a top-10 opponent this year.
By virtue of this loss, Badosa has equaled the most losses she has suffered in a single calendar year against top-10 opponents, when she lost the same number of matches during the entire 2021 season. However, with the 2023 season not even at it's halfway point, it doesn't bode well for the 25-year old.
