World No. 1 Iga Swiatek and third-ranked Paula Badosa have both withdrawn from Berlin with Cornet and Sasnovich replacing them in the main draw.
Swiatek pulled out of the event due to feeling discomfort in her shoulder which is nothing new for her. She has deal with discomfort before this season and opted to skip over Madrid due to the same reason. It's probably not an injury but mostly wear and tear that get's better with rest.
She wrote:
"Due to a recurrent discomfort I am feeling in my shoulder, unfortunately, I need to withdraw from the bett1open in Berlin. I'm sorry I will not be able to play there. I will focus on recovery and rest in order to be ready for Wimbledon."
Paula Badosa on the other hand has not commented on the decision to pull out from the event but she's been dealing with some physical issues as well in the past few weeks. Badosa is still on the entry list for Eastbourne. Both are expected to play at Wimbledon as well.
