Marion Bartoli expressed her belief that Coco Gauff will become a multiple Grand Slam champion and future world No. 1.
The former world No. 7 made these comments on the show Match Points when discussing the bright future ahead for the young American tennis sensation.
Coco Gauff had a breakthrough during the hardcourt swing, winning her first WTA 500, first WTA 1000, and first Grand Slam titles, all while competing in her home country, the USA.
Gauff, who has been on the WTA Tour for several years, achieved these remarkable successes at the age of just 19, despite already having several standout seasons on tour. She narrowly missed winning a major title in the 2022 French Open, where she was the runner-up to Iga Swiatek.
Former French tennis player Marion Bartoli had high praise for Gauff, suggesting that she has the potential to follow in the footsteps of Serena Williams and become a multiple Grand Slam champion in her career.
“Multiple Grand Slam winner & number one in the world, absolutely without a doubt. She’s so driven & she wants that so much. I think there’s just a fairytale story.”
“It looks so much like walking in the footsteps of Serena… of course it’s a big gap between winning one & winning 23, but I just think she has a complete package. She thinks like a 30-year-old even though she’s 19. The physicality & the fitness are just incredible,” she said.

After her excellent performances in North America, Coco Gauff has now traveled to Beijing to compete in the China Open, where she is the third seed. In her opening match, she will face Russian player Ekaterina Alexandrova, with whom she has a head-to-head record of 1-1.
