Making a statement 💯 @ashbarty drops just four points to clinch the opening set against Danka Kovinic 6-0 in 18 minutes. #AO2021 | #AusOpen
Ashleigh Barty put up a show for her native crowd in Melbourne as she smashed Danka Kovinic 6-0 6-0.
The match lasted only 45 minutes and it was more than enough time for Barty to double bagel Kovinic in Melbourne. The match opened with Barty continuing her stellar display that started last week at the Yarra Valley Classic leaving nothing for her opponent. Kovinic could not handle the intensity of a very determined Barty and rather quickly she found herself down 3-0. Not long after the set was over with Ashleigh winning it 6-0 after just 19 minutes of play.
She dropped only 4 points in the whole set hitting 6 winners. Kovinic tried to match the aggression of Barty but it resulted in a massive number of unforced errors which stood at 14 by the time the opening set ended.
A similar thing repeated itself in the 2nd set as Kovinic tried to change things up a bit but the result remained the same. Barty was too much to handle and she jumped out to a 3-0 lead fairly quickly. A bit stronger play from Kovinic resulted in Barty dropping a few more points but once again the Australian extended her lead to 5-0. In the end, it was a 6-0 6-0 victory for Barty in just 45 minutes of play.
