Ashleigh Barty is not stopping as the Australian easily overcame Jessica Pegula for the Australian Open semifinal 6-2 6-0.
The Australian is a very tough matchup for Pegula who enjoys playing against players that hit the ball similarly hard as her. It allows her to unleash her power in an effort to outhit her opponents. Barty is a rather different player that plays tactically and with a lot of variety. Her slice allows her to throw players out of rhythm and Pegula struggles a great deal with that.
Pegula struggled with it immensely in this match with Barty creating a lot of havoc with her slice. The American found herself out of rhythm quite often with many of her balls sailing wide. Barty also combined attacking and defence quite well turning points around with a single shot many times. On her own serve, she was deadly keeping Pegula away from break points.
Pegula was up 40-0 in the first game of the match but lost eventually lost it. That set the tone for the match and the American never quite got back into the match. Barty continued playing her game and added another break in the first set that was ended with 6-2. A similar thing happened in the 2nd set as Baryt took an early break and then another one for the 4-0 lead.
From there it was a rather easy finish for the Australian who is now in the semifinals and one match away from the final. Her level did not dip since the start of the event and she is still the heavy favourite to win the trophy.
