Barty survives third set against Riske to reach quarterfinals

Ashleigh Barty defeated Alison Riske in the 4th round at the 2020 Australian Open in Melbourne to reach quarterfinals in her home country.

Today, there was a lot to watch in Rod Laver Arena in Melbourne Park again. The day was kicked-off by doubles match of legends when McEnroe brothers outplayed Thomas Muster and Mats Wilander. Later, Petra Kvitova booked her quarterfinal spot with victory over Sakkari. And also Novak Djokovic advanced in front of the crowd in the biggest venue in Melbourne. And Ashleigh Barty was there to make a day for the Aussies during the night session.
After victory in Adelaide, Barty remained flawless also in Melbourne with victories over Tsurenko, Hercog and Rybakina. In the fourth round, the world number 1 faced 18th seeded Alison Riske. Aussie opened the match ideally when she has won the first set 6-3.
However, Riske was able to easily level the score in the second when she took it 6-1. But Barty had a lot to play for as she had the crowd holding her back. She got an early 4-1 lead in the last set. Although Riske was able to level the score in the set as well, Barty won 2 straight games to win the set 6-4 and book her spot in the quarterfinals. There, she will meet Petra Kvitova who was a runner-up in Melbourne last year.
