Barty 2
Ashleigh Barty capped off a tremendous week in Adelaide with another strong performance taking down Elena Rybakina 6-3 6-2 in the final.
After scoring several notable victories over the past week, Barty scored another one in the final. Taking on Rybakina, Barty produced a brilliant effort that secured her the trophy, her first in 2022. Since the event started it was obvious that Barty was playing really good tennis. The Australian player looked better and better as time moved on and it concluded with a trophy.
It's her first trophy in 2022 but it won't be the last as the Australian is looking as confident as ever. The start of the match featured strong play by both players as neither allowed much. Both are very capable servers and the points were rather short. Barty was the first that ran into trouble having to serve break points at 3-3. After saving two successfully she went on to break Rybakina in the next game.
The match sort of got decided there as Barty demonstrated a lot sharper tennis in several consecutive crucial rallies. She also demonstrated being the mentally tougher player not allowing a few lost points rattle her. The opposite happened with Rybakina who never recovered after that. Barty secured the first set with 6-3 and continued applying that pressure in the 3rd set.
She took a 4-0 lead after which it was mainly cruise-control for the Australian. She finished it off with 6-2 to secure the trophy. A great start, a confidence booster ahead of the Australian Open.
