Iga Swiatek is enjoying the best stretch of her career being only one match away from back-to-back WTA 1000 titles.
The Polish player will also make her debut as world number one thanks to the retirement of Ashleigh Barty. It's something she has always dreamed of and despite it coming due to Barty's retirement her current form and level indicated that she would have overtaken Barty sooner or later anyway. Her current winning streak stands at 16 consecutive matches with the last defeat coming on February 16th against Ostapenko.
It's been a truly dominant performance and asked what keeps her going she simply said:
“Before the match, we have really good pep talks that are keeping me really focused on the job, because it's not easy."
So far it's been working to perfection for Swiatek who has rarely been challenged properly in Miami. The conditions suit her game perfectly and asked about the unbelievable winning streak, she said:
"I try to use this streak as something positive and something that's going to give me a kick, but yeah, it's a pretty weird situation that I'm in."
