The match between
Belinda Bencic and
Camila Giorgi it looked very tough on paper but it is the former through to the second week at the
Australian Open.
The Swiss player had
achieved comfortable victories to reach the third round after wins over
Victoria Tomova and Claire Liu, both in two sets.
By the other hand, Giorgi drew
the first two rounds after effortless victories against Schmiedlova and
Pavlyuchenkova. Actually, the victory over the Russian was an impressive 6-0,
6-1.
The
Italian, ranked 70th in the world, hasn’t had great results since she achieved
her first WTA 1000 in Montreal 2021, also she started the season with a first
round loss against Romanian Sorana Cirstea in Adelaide. Despite that, she arrives
at the game with Bencic with a great level
At the
beginning of the match, the two players started with an aggressive game, but
the Italian wasn't accurate at the important points, with several unforced
errors. In this way, Bencic took advantage to win the first set 6-2.

second set the singles gold medallist at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic quickly took
the lead, but Giorgi raised the level considerably and hit several winners. The
12th seed went 5-4 and served to win the match, but Camila Giorgi
broke the serve and extended the match. Despite this, the Italian was unable to
ratify her service. Even she fought until the end of the match, Giorgi had no
answers to Bencic consistency, who ended up winning the match by 6-2, 7-5.
Belinda had a decent first serve percentage of 61% , with 69% effectiveness, while Camila had a 67% first serve, but only won 49% of those.

Swiss is in the fourth round and wait for the winner of the match between Aryna
Sabalenka and Elise Mertens.
