A very good tie is being played in Prague between the Czech Republic and Switzerland with the winner set to advance to the quarterfinals of the competition.
In the first match, Marketa Vondrousova easily defeated Viktorija Golubic giving the Czech Republic the 1-0 lead. In the 2nd match, we saw heavyweights Krejcikova and Bencic battle it out with the Czech player having a chance to clinch it for her nation. However, Bencic would not let it as she put forward a strong performance to win the match 7-6(0) 6-4.
Bencic established herself as the better player rather early taking a 3-0 fairly easily. Krejcivako looked a bit shaky overhitting balls too much which is not something she tends to do often. She settled after that and winning a couple of games gave her confidence. That confidence came to light when she broke Bencic at the time the Swiss player served for the 2nd set.
It was 5-4 when Krejcikova served, having to save a set point in that game. After that, the match continued until the tiebreak where Bencic played amazingly. She won it 7-0 to secure the first set for her team. At the start of the 2nd set, both players broke each other and the score remained tied 1-1. Krejcikova continued to have issues and after failing to use break points at 2-2, Bencic finally found a breakthrough at 3-3.
She took the 4-3 lead and held from 15-40 down to secure the 5-3 lead. Bencic would go on to close out the match with 6-4 giving Switzerland a huge point. The winner of the tie will be decided in the doubles match which should begin shortly after this is finished.
