It was a brilliant match between Alexander Zverev and Grigor Dimitrov with the German ultimately pulling out the win 7-6(4) 6-7(3) 6-3.
Alexander and Grigor Dimitrov have played great matches before but quite bizarrely this match was their first in over four years. And it was a very good one that was closely contested from the get-go. True to the nature of the match, Zverev took the opening set in a closely fought tiebreak and the 2nd set followed that trend.
It was Zverev once again who looked more convincing than his opponent. Neither had any trouble winning their service games as both cruised. Dimitrov forced a break point late in the set but the German held on. Not long after that Zverev had two match points at 6-5. Dimitrov held on and completely smashed the German in the tiebreak.
Dimitrov won 9 consecutive points in that timespan to send the match to the decider. And there it was Dimitrov who played better early. Zverev found himself in a whole having to save early break points which Zverev did. Most of those saves came thanks to some stellar serving when he needed them the most. For Dimitrov that was not the case.
The Bulgarian faced break points, not along after that but his serve did not bail him out. It actually was the reason Zverev was able to break him as the German found ways to exploit the 2nd serve of Dimitrov. Even after that the match was very closely contested with both showing signs of fatigue. Zverev was able to keep his serve thanks to some stellar serving down the stretch to move on 6-3.

Alexander Zverev gets a 7th consecutive win, beats Grigor Dimitrov 7-6(4), 6-7(3), 6-3 to reach the QFs in Paris. Great, great match. Zverev is 27-2 (!) since the start of the Olympics, only losses to Djokovic and Fritz.
