Bianca Andreescu made her return to the Billie Jean King Cup beating Cocciaretto in straight sets 7-6(3) 6-3 to give her country the lead.
Andreescu has not played since Guadalajara where she bowed out after a solid outing. She's hoping to use the Billie Jean King Cup to finish off the year on a high note because the next year is pivotal for her career. She proved quite good in this affair against the Italian beating her in straight sets.
Despite it being a good performance, it was far from a flawless one as Cocciaretto is a fighter who makes it very hard. The first set opened better for the Italian taking a 3-0 lead. She was then up 5-2 and had a set point in the next game but failed to close it out.
Andreescu battled back to make it 5-5 and then proceeded to close it out in the tiebreak 7-3. The second set was quite similar as Andreescu fell behind 0-2 in this one but once again battled back to make it 2-2. She then broke the Italian once more to finish it off 6-3.
A solid match from Andreescu who had 25 winners in this one.
