Andreescu defeats Sofia Kenin in front of the home crowd 6-4, 7-6(5) and she will be playing in the final of Rogers Cup after she returns from injury.
In the first set, both players remained without losing their serve for quite a long time. It was young Canadian that could have been the first player to lose her serve, but when scoreboard was showing 4-4 and 40-15 on her serve, she showed her fighting spirit and won 10 of the following 11 rallies. So after 48 minutes of play in Toronto, Andreescu was leading and the crowd was cheering for her.
After the Canadian won the first set 6-4, she was doing very well in the second as well when she was already 5-2 up, but this time her opponent fought to stay in the match and levelled the score. But afterwards the American had to leave the stadium at 6-5 due to injury and the game was interrupted for a while. After this break Kenin couldn't get into the rhythm anymore, so Andreescu secured her place in the final in Toronto after winning 7-5 in the tie-break.
So we already know one of the finalists of this year's
Rogers Cup and the other will be one of the pair
Serena Williams - Marie Bouzkova. Andreescu has never played with Serena, but she has outplayed the Czech already twice this season. The final will be played tomorrow at the centre court.
