4 games were enough for a young Canadian to win the final in front of the home crowd on Rogers Cup as her opponent Serena Williams was forced to give up the match due to injury
The match in Toronto started well for Andreescu when she broke Williams' service in the 3rd game. But no one expected that one game later Serena would head towards the bench and give up the match.
A doctor came to the American right away, but she knew she might not be able to finish the match with the injury. Maybe also the upcoming US Open where Serena has the opportunity to win her 24th Grand Slam title played its part since she did not probably want to be injured before this event.
But as soon as Serena announced that she was not going to play, Bianca came to her, hugged her and addressed her a few nice words, and at least for a moment, the tears changed in laughter.
And so it is Andreescu who can celebrate, although with a slight bitterness, because of the way the match ended.
The Canadian has already seen a second win on a big tournament this season, moving up to 14th place in the WTA ranking.
In the following days, Bianca will be playing in Cincinnati where she will be facing Tsurenko in the first round.
