Bianca Andreescu threw away the match win twice in this match with the French player triumphing 6-7(5) 6-4 6-4.
The Canadian player has had a very rocky road since winning the US Open but things finally worked out in her favour this week in Bad Homburg. She's been rather strong in Berlin last week as well but failed to close out the match against Pliskvoa when she served for it. Those problems persisted in this match as well, unfortunately.
Caroline Garcia has had similar struggles to Andreescu since she broke out a couple of years ago. The French player never got back to that level but this week things clicked as well for her. She was the better player early as she played more solid with Andreescu struggling to find a solid rhythm. Despite being the better player Garcia failed to carve out a lead.
She was better early in the tiebreak as well but once again Andreescu kept fighting and pushing getting it done 7-5. In the 2nd set things changed a bit and it was Andreescu who took the break being up 4-2 with a strong chance to finish off the match. However, she fumbled the lead with a poor game and Garcia completely overturned the result 6-4 in her favour.
It was a remarkable run from Garcia who blasted winner after winner in that 4-0 run. Andreescu opened the 2nd set with a 2-0 lead as Garcia failed to keep up the high level. Eventually, she battled back and even took the lead from Andreescu. It was a lead she could not pull back as the french player cruised to victory.
