Emma Raducanu will take some time away from tennis to nurse her wrist to full health as the current situation is not a viable option long-term.
The Brit opted to play on the injury in Indian Wells and Miami but she can't keep playing on it because it will only make things worse. It's unclear what kind of step Raducanu will take when it comes to this in the near future but she admitted that she needs to review everything because this status quo is not a viable option long-term:
"It’s something I’ve been managing for some time. I just need to
review after this tournament really and figure out what my next steps
are. We
(my team) have been managing it and keeping on top of it. I’m able to
play in the short term. But the current solutions aren’t very viable
long-term.”
She added:
I think that I’m doing the right things day to day, which brings me confidence,” she said. “I
feel like this year has been difficult in the sense that I have been
managing a few existing injuries. That has been annoying and frustrating
because I’ve been working as best as I can.’“I’m enjoying the competition. Really, really happy to be on the match court.”
On the Billie Jean King Cup withdrawal, Raducanu added that it's only her doing what's best for her body:
“I would love to play the Billie Jean King Cup. It’s just that
this scenario is not the best for my body. I really need to look after
myself and do what’s best for me on the match court.
