Latvia’s
Jelena Ostapenko is reportedly not looking forward
to her favourite vacation. The 27-year-old is famous for celebrating her birthday
in a unique manner every year where she spend it in a unique way.
This year, however, Ostapenko will not be able to do that as
she will be, in all likelihood, featuring in the second Grand Slam of the year,
the
French Open. This year’s Roland Garros will begin from May 27 where players
from all the world will participate to showcase their talent and secure the
ultimate prize.
Ostapenko, who is currently taking part in the
Rome Open
where she cemented her spot in the third round after beating Rebecca Sramkova
in the second round with a score of 1-6, 6-4, 6-3. Talking after the match, Ostapenko
stated that chances of having a dream vacation this year to celebrate her birthday
are grim, largely because of the French Open.
“Oh my god, don’t remind me about my birthday,” she said, according to
Tennis.com. “I
don’t want to get one year older! I was thinking to maybe go to Ibizia or
Mykonos. I don’t know. I’ve always wanted to go there, but we’ll see how I do
at the French. I think they’re such cool places, especially in the summer. You
have to go then, otherwise it’s not fun anymore. If I have time, I’ll probably
go there with my friends.”
Ostapenko is having a good season, especially on the clay court. Recently, she lifted the Stuttgart Open after beating the reigning world number one Aryna Sabalenka in the final in straight sets with a score of 6-4, 6-1. She will now face Germany’s Laura Siegemund in the third round. The
37-year-old cemented her spot in the round of 32 after beating Italy’s Lucia Bronzetti
in the round of 64 in straight sets with a score of 6-2, 6-2.
