There have been a lot of changes over the past two years on the WTA circuit, and a recent statistic showed that
Jessica Pegula has been one of the most consistent players during that period.
The top-ranked American was a quarterfinalist at the 2021
Australian Open, where she faced compatriot Jennifer Brady. The other quarterfinalists included Ashleigh Barty, Karolina Muchova, Naomi Osaka, Hsieh Su-Wei, Serena Williams and Simona Halep.
Although Osaka would eventually lift the trophy, the fortunes of all players involved has changed. Williams and Barty have since retired, whereas Osaka is taking time off due to pregnancy. Muchova, Brady and Hsieh have battled with injuries since that time, leading to a drop in rankings and form. Halep is currently suspended and under investigation after testing positive for a banned substance.
Conversely, Pegula has been the most in-form player, putting up great performances at the Majors and seeing her ranking rise to a career-high of World No.3. Always a favorite at each tournament she participates in, the American will look to keep her momentum going at next week's French Open.
