The Luxembourg Ladies Tennis Masters proved quite the success with Kim Clijsters winning the 8-player event and claiming the Jana Novotna Trophy.
The WTA event in Luxembourg was one of the most popular events in the WTA calendars with many great players playing there over the years. The list of champions is quite impressive and includes names like Mary Pierce, Jennifer Capriati, Elena Dementieva, Victoria Azarenka, Venus Williams and Caroline Wozniacki and Kim Clijsters who won five times.
The event lost its place in the WTA calendar this year but the organizers were keen to keep the tennis tradition going so they stagged an exhibition event that featured 8 players. We saw Clijsters reunite with Martina Hingis, Agnieszka Radwanska, Kiki Bertens, Daniela Hantuchova, Julia Goerges and Mandy Minella.
Clijsters ended up winning the event and she said:
“We used to talk in the locker room, of course, but there was a different kind of energy. Now we can talk about our kids, about what we’re doing in life. It’s such a nice experience to share these stories, and to see that tennis family sticks around. I wouldn’t miss it for the world.”
