Spanish Davis Cup Team Captain Sergi Bruguera dismissed comparisons between Alcaraz and Nadal calling for the enjoyment of both.
The need to compare is something fairly unique in modern times with everything and anything getting compared. Carlos Alcaraz was always going to be compared to Rafael Nadal, simply because we haven't seen such a talented player from that country since Nadal. Even if you expand it to the rest of the world, Alcaraz is still the biggest talent right now in tennis.
Sergi Bruguera certainly doesn't like the comparisons because to him Nadal and Alcaraz are different players with unique characteristics:
"He (Alcaraz) is number one in the world, he is 19 years old and of course, he is a different player. You have to enjoy both Carlos and Nadal. You don't have to talk about generational change but enjoy both."
Alcaraz will certainly lead Spain in the Davis Cup many times just like Nadal did and his dream is to win the competition, just like Nadal did. Rafa hasn't been playing for Spain for a while and he told Bruguera earlier this year he would not be playing once more:
"At the beginning of the year, he already told me not to count on him, that he would not be for the Davis Cup. He has always been, but this time he is not. He has the right to choose. He has won many Davis Cups."
