Coco Gauff did what was expected form her in beating
Madison Keys 6-2 6-3 to move on at the
US Open.
The teenager was defeated in the doubles yesterday in a match with much controversy but she rebounded well today. Facing a player she knows well, Gauff lost her serve in the first game but broke back immediately to give herself confidence moving forward. It worked as the American raced around the court giving Keys a headache.
The older American tried to break her down with some success but she was simply outplayed by Gauff who was on every ball. 6-2 was the score in the first set as Keys totalled 11 unforced errors to only 4 winners which was obviously not good enough.
Keys resorted to even more aggressive play in the second set and initially, it worked to a degree. Gauff was still able to jump out to a 3-1 lead after that but gave it back at 4-2. Serving for the tie, Keys gave Gauff another break chance and she pounced.
She then proceeded to close out the match 6-3 and move on to the next round. A good run for Gauff continues in New York and it's important as it's the first time she reached the 4th round of the US Open.
