Teenage tennis sensation
Coco Gauff was forced to miss this year's Tokyo
Olympic Games due to a positive Covid test, but the American is already eyeing a spot at the next Olympics.
The 17-year old tested positive for Covid just a few days prior to this year's Olympics, and was denied the opportunity to represent Team USA as she was forced to withdraw from the event. However, Gauff is excited at the prospect at competing during the next Olympics, which will be held in Paris in 2024.
“I’m very hopeful I will have many other opportunities to qualify for the team and hopefully actually get to the Olympics before any unforeseen circumstances happen,” Gauff told reporters after an exhibition match at the Citi Open Washington.
The World No.25 stated that while she was mostly asymptomatic during her Covid diagnosis, she did experience loss of her sense of smell. Nonetheless, she seems to have put this year's unfortunate incident behind her and is looking forward to the next Games, during which she will just be 20 years old.
