Despite riding the momentum following the biggest win of his career, South African Lloyd Harris was unable to overcome
Kei Nishikori in the quarterfinals of the Citi Open Washington.
Coming off a thrilling round of 16 win over
Rafael Nadal on Thursday night, Harris was unable to replicate his performance against the Japanese superstar on Friday evening. Nishikori withstood 10 aces from the World No.50, breaking him on four occasions to prevail with a 6-3 7-5 victory.
Following a quarterfinal appearance at the ongoing Tokyo
Olympic Games, Nishikori has been in great form. The former World No.4 looked sharp as he maneuvered his opponent around the court, coupling precise shot-making with exceptional defense.
Currently ranked at World No.67, the 2015 Washington champion awaits the winner in the all-American quarterfinal clash between Mackenzie McDonald and Denis Kudla.
