Two-time Grand Slam titlist
Victoria Azarenka was forced to withdraw from her exhibition match against
Jessica Pegula at the Citi Open Washington with an ankle injury, but she still plans to compete at the National Bank Open (Rogers Cup) in Montreal next week.
Last year's
US Open runner-up faced American
Coco Gauff in her first exhibition match on Thursday, losing in straight sets. However, the Belarusian suffered an ankle injury sometime and announced her withdrawal on Friday.
“I rolled my ankle and I need to rest before I start in Montreal,” stated Azarenka.
The 32-year old reached last year's US Open final after defeating
Serena Williams in the semifinals, before falling to
Naomi Osaka in the championship match.
