Coco Gauff has been lavished with praise, with even the US Senate joining in as they introduced a Congress resolution that congratulated the American on her triumph in New York.
The 19-year old surpassed the odds to defeat World No.1 Aryna Sabalenka in a thrilling final, lifting her maiden Grand Slam title in the process. With millions flocking to congratulate the Atlanta native, the US Senate also took the opportunity to express their pride in the tennis prodigy.
Gauff's victory highlighted as an inspiration to thousands of young girls and boys
"Congratulating Coco Gauff for her inspiring victory at this year’s US Open Tennis Championships," read an excerpt from the text of the resolution. "Whereas, on September 9, 2023, Gauff won her first Grand Slam title at the US Open; Whereas, on March 13, 2004, Gauff was born in Atlanta, Georgia, and grew up in Delray Beach, Florida, where she still lives today.
"Whereas Gauff is an inspiration to millions of young girls and boys across the country with her passion for the sport, faith and victories : Now, therefore, be it. Resolved, That the Senate congratulates Gauff for her inspiring victory at this year’s US Open Tennis Championships."
The Resolution was passed by US Senators Jon Ossoff, Raphael Warnock, Marco Rubio, and Rick Scott. Warnock, a Baptist pastor and Atlanta native, took to social media to openly praise Gauff for her accomplishments.
"Coco Gauff has brought pride to the state of Georgia and the country. Now it’s officially on the congressional record. Congratulations once again on your historic, incredible win, @CocoGauff! We’re so proud of all that you’ve accomplished," tweeted Warnock.
